We have always claimed that Mustad Hooks are stronger and more resilient than other hooks!
But hey, we’re biased - so we went out and asked some experts.
In 2022 The Otago Polytechnic Engineering Department carried out controlled testing on four popular brands of fish hooks. Their testing covered two major areas:
1. CORROSION RESISTANCE
Better corrosion resistance = longer lasting hooks
A corrosion resistance chamber was set up which applied heated salt water in cycles to replicate a series of fishing conditions over a period of 26 days. Mustad and three other leading brands of hooks were tested.
Testing results showed that Mustad is over 2X more resistant to corrosion than any of the other leading brand hooks tested.*
2. HOOK STRENGTH
Big fish require strong hooks
The strength was tested by fixing the hooks in a jig and loading each hook with increasing levels of weight. By measuring the amount of deformation (straightening) in each hook, a comparison of inline strength was established.
Testing results showed the Mustad Big Red 6/0 is significantly stronger than any of the other leading brand hooks tested.*
